十七,愚公移山 原创 赵宪尧 赵丽元 泌阳县玉德堂书院

编者按:

玉德堂书院成立以来,第一个组织研究的社会科学项目便是“以盘古开天地为首篇的中华创世神话研究”。目前,研究项目已经完成,取得了丰硕成果,完成了《中国盘古创世文化论文集》和《中华创世神话》两本专著书稿。在书籍出版发行前,我们计划分三十六期发表这套书的编委会主任赵宪尧教授推荐的部分内容,以飨读者。

《中华创世神话》以“盘古开天地”为首篇,以“盘古兄妹再创世”为中篇,以“禹启夺权记”为末篇分为上部和下部两部分。上部包括从“夸父逐日”到“罗汉山伏羲演八卦”共九篇的“天人合一生存篇”;包括从“炎帝传”到“颛顼传奇”共五篇的“称王称霸争斗篇”。下部包括从“愚公移山创世说”到“轩辕帝铜山铸鼎钟”共五篇的“文化肇始文明篇”;包括从“尧帝仁政传”到“舜帝禅让大禹记”共八篇的“仁政禅让治理篇”。

《中华创世神话》以开篇-天人合一生存篇-称王称霸争斗篇-中篇-文化肇始文明篇-仁政禅让治理篇-末篇计七篇章总共三十个创世神话完整,系统的构架体系向读者展示出中华远古人创造的文明史。这是奠定中华民族共同世界观,人生观,价值观的根基,是树立中华民族自信心的基石,是凝聚中华民族认同共识的基础。值得每一位华夏儿女拥有,熟读和领悟。更值得国内外研究中国精神,研究中国文化,研究中国人民勤劳勇敢,创新进取,宽厚仁爱革命精神的专家学者和爱好者阅读。同样期盼大家多多关注,广泛宣传,共同拥有,共同受益。

十七,愚公移山

盤古開天,清濁辨分,輕清上浮為天,重濁下凝為地。然天地初定,崑崙之墟東、渤海之濱,橫亙二山,曰太行,曰王屋。二山拔地萬仞,遮日月之光,塞江河之脈,使蒼生下民困於幽暗,往來者必攀岩附葛,跋涉千里,死者相屬,哀嚎徹野。
時有愚公者,居於山北,年且九旬,面山而居。見斯民之苦,心焚如炙,乃嘆曰:「天地以仁育萬物,豈容此山障民生路?吾當移此二山,通南北之途,使日月照臨,川澤安流,為萬世開太平!」
家人聞之,或疑曰:「山高萬仞,土石億兆,以君之年,何能為也?」愚公撫須笑曰:「吾身雖老,然子子孫孫無窮匱也!子承吾志,孫繼子業,薪火相傳,何愁山不移?」遂率子孫荷擔者三夫,叩石墾壤,箕畚運於渤海之尾。
河曲智叟聞而笑之,止曰:「汝之不惠甚矣!以殘年餘力,曾不能毀山之一毛,其如土石何?」愚公長息曰:「汝心之固,固不可徹!汝不見滄海可填,桑田可易?吾移山非為一己,為天下蒼生。縱吾身死,志不稍改,天地亦當感吾赤誠!」其言未畢,忽有雷霆震於九霄,雲氣翻騰,有神人降自天闕,乃夸娥氏二子也。二子曰:「天帝聞公之願,感公之堅,命吾二人負此二山,遷於朔東、雍南,以遂公志。」言罷,伸巨手攬山,輕如拾芥,二山凌空而去。
山既移,天地豁然開朗。日月之光普照四方,江河之水順流東注,南北通途坦蕩,百姓往來無虞,耕田鑿井,安居樂業。民感愚公之德,立祠祀之,頌曰:「愚公之志,感天動地;一志既立,萬難可移。」
自此,天下知「志之所趨,無遠弗屆」,愚公之精神,遂為華夏之魂,傳之千古而不朽。

在盘古开辟天地的最初,混沌的元气开始分离:轻盈而清澈的部分向上飘升,成为了天空;沉重而浑浊的部分向下凝聚,形成了大地。然而天地刚稳定下来时,在昆仑山废墟的东面、渤海的岸边,却横亘着两座大山,一座叫太行山,一座叫王屋山。这两座山拔地而起,高达万仞,遮蔽了日月的光芒,堵塞了江河的脉络,让世间百姓深陷幽暗之中。往来赶路的人,必须攀附藤蔓、攀爬岩石,跋涉千里之遥,途中因疲惫、艰险死去的人接连不断,凄厉的哀嚎声响彻原野。
当时有个叫愚公的人,住在山的北面,年纪已将近九十岁,正对着大山居住。他眼见百姓遭受这般苦难,内心像被烈火焚烧般焦灼,于是叹息道:“天地以仁厚之心养育万物,怎会容忍这两座山阻挡百姓的生路?我定要移走它们,打通南北的道路,让日月的光芒普照大地,江河的水流安稳奔涌,为后世子孙开辟太平生活!”
家人听到他的想法,有人疑惑地说:“山高万仞,泥土石块多得难以计数,凭您这把年纪,又能做成什么呢?”愚公轻抚胡须笑道:“我虽然年老,但子孙后代是没有穷尽的!儿子继承我的志向,孙子延续儿子的事业,这份心意代代相传,还怕大山移不走吗?”说完,他便带领着能挑担子的三个子孙,敲凿石头、开垦土壤,用簸箕把土石运到渤海的岸边。
住在河曲的智叟听说这件事,笑着劝阻道:“你实在太不明智了!凭着你残余的年岁和力气,连山上的一根草木都动不了,又能把这些土石怎么样呢?”愚公长叹一声说:“你的思想太固执了,固执到无法通达事理!你没见过大海可以被填平、桑田可以变成陆地吗?我移山不是为了自己,是为了天下百姓。即便我死去,志向也不会有丝毫改变,天地也该被我的赤诚所感动!”
他的话还没说完,忽然有雷霆在高空炸响,云雾翻腾,有神仙从天宫降临,正是夸娥氏的两个儿子。他们说:“天帝听说了您的心愿,被您的坚定打动,命令我们兄弟俩背着这两座山,迁到朔方的东边、雍州的南边,来完成您的志向。”说完,他们伸出巨手抱住山,动作轻得像捡起一根小草,两座山就凌空飞走了。
山被移走后,天地间一下子变得开阔明亮。日月的光芒照遍四方,江河的水顺着地势向东流去,南北之间的道路平坦通畅,百姓往来再也没有阻碍,种地打井,过着安稳快乐的日子。
百姓感激愚公的恩德,修建祠堂祭拜他,还赞颂道:“愚公的志向,能打动天地;一旦立下坚定志向,再大的困难都能克服。”从那以后,天下人都知道“只要志向所指,再远的地方都能到达”,愚公的精神也成了中华民族的灵魂,流传千年而永不磨灭。
英译文:

Yu Gong Moving the Mountains

In the earliest days after Pangu created heaven and earth, the chaotic primordial qi began to separate: the light and clear part rose upward to become the sky, while the heavy and turbid part condensed downward to form the earth. However, when heaven and earth had just stabilized, two great mountains stood across the land—east of the ruins of Kunlun Mountain and along the shore of the Bohai Sea. One was called Taihang Mountain, and the other Wangwu Mountain. These two mountains rose straight from the ground, towering ten thousand ren high (a "ren" is an ancient Chinese unit of length, roughly 1.6 meters). They blocked the light of the sun and moon, blocked the courses of rivers, and plunged the people of the world into darkness. Travelers had to cling to vines and climb over rocks, trekking thousands of li (a "li" is an ancient Chinese unit of distance, roughly 0.5 kilometers). Countless people died from exhaustion and danger along the way, and their shrill wails echoed across the wilderness.
At that time, there was a man named Yu Gong (the Foolish Old Man) who lived north of the mountains. He was nearly ninety years old and resided directly facing the mountains. Seeing the people suffer such hardships, his heart burned with anxiety. He sighed and said, "Heaven and earth nurture all things with kindness—how could they tolerate these two mountains blocking the people’s way of life? I must move them, open a road between the north and south, let the light of the sun and moon shine over the land, let rivers flow steadily, and pave a peaceful life for future generations!"
When his family heard his idea, someone asked doubtfully, "The mountains are ten thousand ren high, and the amount of soil and rocks is beyond counting. With your age, what can you possibly accomplish?" Yu Gong stroked his beard and smiled, "Though I am old, my descendants are endless! My sons will carry on my ambition, my grandsons will continue my sons’ work, and this resolve will be passed down from generation to generation. How can we fear that the mountains cannot be moved?" After speaking, he led his three sons who could carry loads, chiseled stones, dug up soil, and used winnowing baskets to transport the earth and rocks to the shore of the Bohai Sea.
Zhi Sou (the Wise Old Man) who lived in Hequ heard about this and laughed to dissuade Yu Gong, "You are truly unwise! With your remaining years and strength, you cannot even move a single blade of grass or a twig on the mountain—what can you do with all this soil and rocks?" Yu Gong sighed deeply and said, "Your mind is too rigid, so rigid that you cannot understand reason! Have you never seen the sea filled up or mulberry fields turned into land? I move the mountains not for myself, but for all the people under heaven. Even if I die, my ambition will not change in the slightest—and heaven and earth should be moved by my sincerity!"
Before he finished speaking, thunder suddenly crashed in the sky, clouds and mist churned, and immortals descended from the Heavenly Palace—they were the two sons of Kua E Shi. They said, "The Heavenly Emperor heard your wish and was moved by your determination. He ordered us brothers to carry these two mountains and move them to the east of Shuofang and the south of Yongzhou to fulfill your ambition." After speaking, they stretched out their giant hands to hold the mountains, moving as lightly as picking up a blade of grass. The two mountains then flew away in the air.
After the mountains were moved, heaven and earth suddenly became broad and bright. The light of the sun and moon shone everywhere, rivers flowed eastward along the terrain, and the road between the north and south became flat and unobstructed. The people no longer faced obstacles when traveling; they farmed the land and dug wells, living a stable and happy life.
Grateful for Yu Gong’s kindness, the people built ancestral halls to worship him and praised, "Yu Gong’s ambition could move heaven and earth; once a firm resolve is made, no difficulty is insurmountable." Since then, everyone under heaven has known that "as long as your ambition is set, even the farthest place can be reached." Yu Gong’s spirit has become the soul of the Chinese nation, passed down for thousands of years and never fading away.
